Windsor police have raided a downtown psilocybin dispensary for at least the ninth time, seizing $15,740 of illegal magic mushroom products and arresting one person.

Officers with the drugs and guns unit (DIGS) entered the business in the 300 block of Ouellette Avenue Thursday morning.

Police said a search of the premise turned up 84 packages of psilocybin-infused gummies, 51 bottles of psilocybin capsules, 69 psilocybin-infused chocolate bars,112 packages of dried psilocybin, two packages of candy freeze-dried psilocybin, two psilocybin vape cartridges, along with $2,900 in Canadian currency and US$100.

 A 52-year-old employee was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.

Police have raided the business numerous times over the last two years.

In June, police seized $21,100 in illegal drugs from the dispensary that sells psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms and used as a hallucinogen.

Health Canada warns that taking magic mushrooms can cause people to “see, hear or feel things that are not there, or to experience anxiety, fear, nausea and muscle twitches accompanied by increased heart rate and blood pressure.”

A 33-year-old employee, on the premises during the June raid, was charged with possession of a Schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with an undertaking.

Over the past two years, officers have repeatedly raided the same storefront location, seizing more than $200,000 worth of psilocybin-infused products and charging a number of individuals with trafficking related offences.

Sales of products containing the hallucinogen psilocybin are illegal in Canada.

Advocates tout the natural product’s health benefits in helping those suffering from anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder.
